Developing an SEO Campaign

Search engine optimization is a process used to make your Web site more accessible to the search engines.  When search engines visit Web sites, they are looking to index information that can be retrieved when users perform searches using specific words and phrases.  You need to make it as easy as possible for the search engines to find your information and that’s where SEO comes in.  SEO is a process that starts with analyzing your Web site and implementing key changes that will make your site more accessible to both users and the search engines.  Knowing how to carry out an SEO campaign can give you the edge over your competitors and drive traffic to your Web site like crazy.

Web Site Analysis

Before you can begin optimizing your Web site, you’ll need to analyze the design, layout, and contents of your current site.  Look for ways to make the site more useful to your visitors and techniques you can use to make your site more accessible to the search engines.  Analyzing your Web site will help you to identify changes that you can make to attract and retain more qualified visitors and increase your sales conversions.

Competitive Analysis

Analyzing your competitors’ Web sites can help you identify things you want to change about your Web site and it can also give you a clue as to the SEO strategies being used by each competitor.  You may find out that your competitors have more products or services or that they offer added value that you haven’t been offering to your customers.  You can use this information to build a business that offers the best value to customers.  You can also find out what keywords are being used and what each competitor is doing to generate Web traffic.

Keyword Research and Selection

Selecting keywords is one of the most important parts of an SEO campaign.  Choose the right keywords and you can drive traffic to your site and make your sales conversions go through the roof.  Choose the wrong keywords and you can decrease your traffic or attract untargeted visitors with no interest in the products, services, and information you have to offer.  When you do keyword research, you can identify the keywords that will help bring the most traffic to your Web site and come up with a plan for implementing those keywords.

Content Development and Management

The next step in any successful search engine optimization campaign is adding content to your Web site.  Content that is useful and relevant for your visitors is what will help you to achieve good search engine rankings as well as form good customer relationships.  You should not cram as many keywords as possible into your content.  Instead, make your keywords fit naturally so your content does not sound like blatant advertising.  Content can include articles, case studies, checklists, special reports, blog postings, and other forms of the written word.  Using content on your site can truly help you improve your search engine rankings.

Link Building

Building links to your Web site is one of the most important ways you can optimize your pages for the search engines.  When the search engines are looking for content to index, they follow links from page to page.  The more quality links you have to your page, the better your chances of improving your rankings.  Avoid submitting your link to just any site or directory.  Choose sites and directories that are relevant to your Web site so you can get the best results from your link building.

Tracking Your Results

Once you have optimized your site, you will need to track your results so you know what is working and what can be eliminated.  You can use Web site statistics and other methods to determine how effective your campaign has been.  Once you identify successful components and unsuccessful components, you can adjust your budget and your time to make changes that will bring you even better results.
