Making Mistakes with SEO
When you optimize your Web site, you are making it more accessible for the search engines. This is important because the search engines crawl the Web looking for information and index it in their databases. When people perform searches for information, the search engines look through their indexed information and return the most relevant results. If your Web site has been properly optimized, you have a better chance of having it returned as a result when people search for terms related to your products and services. If you make SEO mistakes, you may reduce the effectiveness of your SEO campaign. Knowing some of the most common SEO mistakes can help you to avoid them and keep your efforts on track.
Low Quality Links and Link Farms
Some people think that submitting their site link to a link farm can help them to improve their SEO results. While links are important for search engine optimization, the quality of the links is also important. Link farms accept links from any Web site, so the links on these sites are low quality and wont help you to improve your results. In fact, they may even harm your efforts because some search engines do not look favorably upon artificially increasing your link popularity by using these link farms. Submitting your site to a link farm does not help your site and may even get you blacklisted from the search engines.
Web Content Mistakes
When you post content on your Web site, it should be relevant and useful for your visitors. When you add content to your site that is irrelevant to the products and services you are selling, you are making your site less valuable for visitors. In addition, irrelevant content doesnt help you optimize your site because it contains the wrong keywords. Unless you have content with the right keywords that makes people understand what your site is about, it will not help you with your optimization. If you dont know how to develop great content for your Web site, consider hiring a freelance copywriter to help you come up with compelling content that meets your needs for SEO.
Keyword Spamming
Keyword spamming is something that sneaky optimizers can do to improve Web rankings, but spamming is most often done by inexperienced optimizers who dont understand the consequences. Spamming means overusing keywords on your Web pages so that the search engines think your page is the most relevant result for those keywords. Keyword spamming can be done using hidden text or by blatantly listing keywords without regard for the quality of Web content. Not only is this a mistake, it can even get you penalized by the search engines. Instead of spamming keywords, place your keywords throughout your text so that the content reads naturally and makes sense.
Understanding some of the most common search engine optimization mistakes can help you to recognize what should not be done when optimizing a Web site. Knowing what to avoid will help you to concentrate your efforts on accepted SEO methods so you can get the best results.
