Tracking and Analyzing Your SEO Results

Optimizing your Web site can be a long process that costs you in terms of time and money.  You’ll want to make sure your time is being spent wisely and that you are getting a good return on your investment.  Once your site has been optimized for the search engines, you’ll also want to see if traffic has picked up or if you have had better sales..  You can review and analyze your SEO results by using Web site statistics and using search engines and directories to find out how well your site is doing in the rankings.  Keeping track of your progress means knowing what tools are available and how to use them.

Directories and Search Engines

There’s an easy way for you to do research on how well SEO efforts are working for your business.  This method involves using the search engines to see how well your site is being ranked for your keywords.  When you started optimizing your site, you should have kept records of the type of traffic you were getting or how well you were ranked (if ranked at all).  If you kept track of where you were when you started, you can use the search engines to see if your rankings have improved.  Visit several search engines and use your keywords to perform searches for information.  If your site shows up near the top of the rankings, your SEO efforts are having some success.  Take notes while you do your research so you have a point of comparison for another date in the future.

Analyzing Statistics

One of the best tools you can use to track your SEO results is the statistics provided by your Web hosting provider.  Some Web hosts only provide limited statistics, so it is important that you have an established host that offers more features.  Some statistics packages will tell you information like number of hits, number of unique visitors, search terms used to find your site, IP address accessing your site, and locations of people accessing your site.  Not only can you find out all of this information, you can also record it and save it for further tracking purposes.  When you find out how people are finding your site, you can make changes to your pages to make it even easier for visitors to find and navigate your Web pages.

Other Tracking Tools

Other tracking tools can be used to check your SEO results.  One tool you can use that’s not offered by your Web host is a survey or newsletter signup on your Web site.  If you notice an increase in the number of people signing up for your newsletter or taking your survey, your SEO efforts may be paying off.  Knowing how you can track your SEO results will help you to use all of the resources available to you to analyze your results and make changes that can improve your rankings and the accessibility of your Web site so that you can increase your sales conversions and profits.
